Those of you who have followed us a while know we've talked occasionally about our friend Sam. He's had a very strained relationship with his parents and I've been worried about him for the longest time. He's actually feeling a little more hopeful about his future, but he still needs to be ready for the possibility that his parents may kick him out if they discover he's gay.
He's been participating in a program for LGBT youth where he gets individual and group counseling as well as meeting with a case manager who is helping him with different resources he might use if his parents disown him.
Many of you have wondered if Sam might like to write a post to introduce himself. We asked him if this was something he might like to do and told him about all the incredible support everyone here gives.
He talked to his counselor about it and Sam said his counselor supports him in thinking about what he might want to share.
So, Sam told us he might like to just write something short where he introduces a little bit about himself and then shares a poem he wrote. He said he doesn't feel comfortable yet in going into a lot of detail, but said he would be open to writing more at some point.
He's going to be working on something this weekend, so maybe next week you'll get to meet him in his own words.
I'm so incredibly proud of him and care about him like you wouldn't believe. And I'm happy we get to share him with all of you. Stay tuned.
