We're definitely taking this one seriously. The snow is starting today and is suppose to go through tomorrow afternoon or even early Sunday morning. At a minimum we're probably going to get 24 inches and some forecasts say it might go as high as 30 inches.
So far this year the biggest snow storm only produced 3.2 inches and the biggest storm last year was only 4.4 inches. And only six times in Boston’s weather history (more than 100 years) has more than 20 inches fallen in one storm. So, yeah, we're definitely taking this one seriously. This is not just a nice "winter wonderland snow," this is in the "blizzard" category. This is serious business.
At lot of times the local forecasters here tend to get a little hysterical in how they report major storms, but even the national sites seem particularly worried about this one. So there seems to be some basis for how excited and anxious they come across when reporting it.
It seems the city is encouraging people to go home from work early since it's suppose to be hitting particularly hard during rush hour. Both of us have already been told to stay home from work and afternoon classes are being cancelled.
They also said there is absolutely no way people should be outside shoveling until probably late Saturday afternoon or early Sunday morning. I went to the store yesterday and stocked up on extra batteries, candles, canned goods, water, the whole nine yards. Later this afternoon we'll start hibernating inside the house and will be in for the duration.
You know me and how I get when it snows. It's like I get thrown back to being a little kid who loves to go outside and play and build a snowman and throw snowballs. Oh, and then there's all that excess energy I have that I get to burn off by shoveling the sidewalk and driveway and then start down the street helping others. It's actually very relaxing to me, believe it or not.
But rest assured, I know danger when I see it and we're taking this storm seriously. Once we settle in later today, I'm not budging until it's done its thing.
Okay. Enough facts and figures. I need to make sure the candles and flashlights and blankets are in places where we can find them. Take care!

It sounds like you're well-prepared - we'll be thinking about you!
ReplyDeleteHey Guys,
ReplyDeleteAs I said in my other post, stay safe! I unfortunately have to work later today, but I'm hoping we close early. As of right now there aren't even any flurries here in the Springfield area so we'll see. As a New Englander I have no problems driving in the snow, but this one has me nervous. Our local news is saying that toward evening when it becomes blizzard like, the driving conditions will be "near impossible". Ick!
I'm glad you guys are going to stay in, this is a great opportunity to cuddle up and stay warm! I bet Brad can come up with some ways for you o expend that extra energy you get from snow, until you can get out there to shovel ;)
"I bet Brad can come up with some ways for you o expend that extra energy you get from snow, until you can get out there to shovel ;)"
DeleteLOL, Carey! That's almost verbatim what Brad said, too!! LOL.
I saw this morning how bad the Boston area is going to get hit and I thought of you guys. Stay safe! Yesterday they were predicting 12-18 inces for my area but today it's been downgraded to less than 8 and that's just fine with me. I know the coastal people will get it much worse so I'll be keeping you two in my thoughts! Sounds like you're well prepared!
ReplyDeleteMatt, you're big news in Toronto too. I thought about you guys when they said that Boston would be hardest hit. I'm with Carey, I hope you find warm activities too to keep you busy. And pace yourself when you cleanup the whole neighborhood lol.
ReplyDelete"Matt, you're big news in Toronto too."
DeleteOMG, what I read that sentence I wondered how I had made the news in Toronto! LOL.
It's okay. I would totally bail you out lol.
DeleteOh yeah, maybe you'll have time to blog on your partying! lol
ReplyDeleteHi Matty,
ReplyDeleteI know you and Bradley will be the hardest hit, but down here in NYC I'm inside and waiting, too. I'm working from home today so not to deal with the evening rush hour.
Late yesterday they upgraded our predicted snowfall from 6 to 12 inches, to 12 to 18 inches. That's when I went to the grocery store! Not concerned about losing power because everything is underground.
Matty, you two keep warm and safe. Don't go running outside trying to expend all that pent up energy shoveling everyone's driveway and sidewalk. I'm sure you can find other ways to work it all out. :)
Take care and enjoy your 'winter wonderland'.
Yikes! I feel bad for all the critters out there who have to brave the storm. And all the doggies who have to go out and do their business in the blizzard. Score one for cat owners! I don't think we're getting anything here in Charlotte. Sounds like you're well-prepared though. Charge up those cells/laptops/kindles in case the power goes out! :-)
ReplyDeleteBe safe and stay warm! xoxo
They talked about it here too! Stay safe guys. Will be thinking of you. *hugs to you both*
ReplyDeleteSounds like the perfect excuse for a sex fest to me :) lol
ReplyDeleteHow'd you know that was on our list of "activities to pass time"? LOL! ♥
DeleteTake care Matt and Brad. Stay safe and warm and enjoy your time together. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like you're well prepared and will be warm and cozy in spite of the blizzard. Have fun in the snow, Matt, when the weather clears. Let us know how you get on, I'll be thinking of you both. ♡
ReplyDeleteExcellent job, Matty! I'm glad you're well prepared. Be safe! And did you say snow shoveling is relaxing? You did? Huh. Ok, just checking, whacko! :P
ReplyDelete-Shell
Have a good time being snowed in! Sometimes it is nice to get all snuggly for the weekend, curl up together and have fun. You guys will have a good time, I'm sure. Enjoy and stay safe and warm!
ReplyDeleteYou make it sound very exciting, LOL! Take care and have fun ;)
ReplyDeleteStay safe guys! I will be thinking of you both and will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Is it wrong that I would love to be able to let my kids play in all that snow once its settled? LOL. As long as there are plenty of supplies and you keep you're power....sounds good to me! Let us know how you guys are doing if you can. ((Hugs))
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine over two feet of snow in one day. *shudders* We just had fifteen inches last night and that was more than enough for me. On the bright side, we had a snow day and stayed in. Trust me, there's tons to do when you're all locked up. ;) You boys stay safe. ♥
ReplyDeleteStay warm you boys. Also all you others up north. I miss the snow at times but then see this and think...not so much;)
ReplyDeleteTj
Hopefully you're staying dry and warm.
