I GOT A JOB!!!
They didn't offer me a job at that fancy-smancy restaurant in downtown Boston, which I'm actually happy about. I think my age probably had something to do with it since all the the other waiters were in their 40s or older and had a sophisticated butler look to their appearance. Plus everybody in there talked with some kind of aristocratic accent you would expect to see on a TV program they might call The Queen Visits the Manor House (no offense to our UK friends intended).
This is the place where, when I asked about the possibility of getting some kitchen experience since I wanted to go to culinary school at some point, they just looked at me like I had gotten off the boat or something.
I did get a waiter job at a really nice restaurant in the 'burb next to where we live. I'm going to be working the lunch shift and they gave me 5 hours a day for 5 days a week. I might get the dinner shift a little later, which would be good since you make better tips then.
The owner said he talked to their chef and I may be able to get some hours in the kitchen. But he told me there was some kind of Health Department rule that unless you are a "certified" chef, you have to take this 5 hour course where they teach you that you need to wash your hands and, get this, if you cough or sneeze, you should always make sure your snot doesn't get in the food! Who would have known? LOL!
Oh, and when you're preparing the food, you should always be fully clothed, unlike Chef Hunk over there ------------------------------------>

Brad: Congrats on the job! I've come to believe Matty is one lucky guy to have you as his partner and if this photo is any where near close to how you are "dressing" his salad every meal, no wonder he supports your culinary dreams. Haha.
ReplyDeleteBrad!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your new job. My DH is a restaurant manager and he has to recertify his health and food safety course every 2 yrs.
On a more serious note.....you should be commended on your water conservation! I'm sure your rewards are many! LOL
Many hugs to you and Matty
*snerk* The ol' 'water conservation' excuse, eh? Mmm hmm.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the job, Brad. I'm sure they'll have you moved to dinner shifts in no time. =)
Hi Brad.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. I was thinking of you (and Matt) over the holiday weekend, wondering how the job search was going. I am so happy for you. This job, with its potential, sounds perfect. Probably the hardest thing for you to remember will be to remain clothed at all times.:)
And as for you and Matty at the end of each day, be sure to continue to conserve as much water as possible!
Congrats! I've no doubt you wil be a stellar waiter and attentive chef-in-training.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations
ReplyDeleteYay, congrats Brad :) Have fun!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your new job Brad! Sounds like you and Matt will be staying busy this summer. Keep enjoying those shared showers. :D
ReplyDeleteCongrats Bradley! I am so happy that you got the job where you can get possibly get some kitchen experience. When I was a manager at a fast food place years ago I had to do that course and one of those serve safe or something like that courses for kitchen safety. They really are all common sense stuff. Anyway, I am sure they will have you moved to dinner shifts soon enough and once you get the course out of the way you can get some experience. Once they see how great you are in the kitchen perhaps they will even move you to work more as in there. This is a great first step toward your goal of becoming a chef, I am proud of you Brad!
ReplyDeleteGlad Matty is enjoying his job still and you get the benefit of showering with him after. As for conserving water...hmmm...yeah keep telling yourself that lol Not sure it's conserving when you find ways to make it last much longer ;)
Huge hugs to you both!!
Dear Bradley, how wonderful!!! I am so glad for you!! I know the summer will fly by but I am hoping the two of you get just a bit of vacation time before the end of the summer I've heard Washington DC is a great place to visit during the summer. Hmmm wonder who lives there??? Enjoy your daily sex, er, showers!!! So glad to hear about couples share like interests and ideals like good hygiene!! Love you boys!!!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, DC is lovely (ok, totally gross and humid) at the end of the summer! Come visit us!
DeleteTempting.... We'd have to have a guarantee of air conditioning 24/7. I have about no tolerance for high humidity and scorching hot temps.!! I'm like a grizzly bear without AC in the summer! And I hear there's a lot of "hot air" from all those politicans in D.C.! LOL.
DeleteAir conditioning--check!! have that!! hmmmm...how to entice 2 boys in love to travel!!!! Thinking...thinking...
DeleteYeah, congratulations on the job! And glad to hear that Matty (and you!) are enjoying his job as well. Very exciting!
ReplyDeleteCongrats Brad!
ReplyDeleteThat is great news, congratulations! :D
ReplyDeleteCongrats Brad! Knew you would rock it. And, I am glad to hear that you and Matty are being environmentally conscious by conserving water. *wink*
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your summer and each other.
*hugs*
Congratulations Brad! I really think this was the better job, especially when they show some interest in you as a person, and might give you opportunities to get some kitchen exposure (not that kind of exposure ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Matt is enjoying his job - and he's probably building more muscles too. Sounds like a win. I'm all in favor of water conservation and cleanliness. Nice way to combine both.
((hugs))
I have tried to post this three times. *ggrrrrrr* Your blog doesn't love me anymore. *sniffles* Anyway, I am smarter than my iPad and I copied my original comment. *sticks tongue out at iPad*
ReplyDeleteCONGRATULATIONS Brad! I am so happy and so proud of you. Of both of you. Enjoy this summer, getting to learn about the whole cooking world and what it means to have that first summer break after your first semester/year of college.
I remember mine fondly. It was in the Florida Keys. My friends and I rented a hotel room on the beach for two weeks. There was drinking, frat boys, condoms, lube, a tattoo artist....
*clears throat*
Umm....yeah...what was I saying? Oh yeah! Enjoy your summer, each other and congratulations again!
Congratulations Brad!! Glad you've found something and I really hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteDo you find sharing a shower seems to make the hot water last longer? I always did... weird huh? ;)
Vicktor, your first year break sounds like my first YEAR, to a degree... lol! There's a reason I only got that first one done. Hehehe...
LOL. I tend to leave behind quite a reputation when I go somewhere and freshman year of college was no different. I just end up being friends with the friends who like to have lots of smexy fun. I was only at THAT college for a year (kinda hard to come back to a school when the entire frat is looking at you and smiling like they know ALL about you), though not college in general.
DeleteYAY BRAD!!! :D Knew you could do it! {{{hugs}}}
ReplyDeleteHey, good for you! At least you're working in a restaurant, which is the best place to earn some coin if you want a culinary career. Despite crazy government regulations, you can still absorb a good deal of knowledge just by keeping your eyes and ears open and asking questions of the kitchen crew.
ReplyDeleteI applaud your water conservation efforts. ;-)
Thanks everybody. I really like the job so far. The people are super nice and they seem to like me, so I feel like I'm going to fit in well.
ReplyDeleteUm duh they like you. Who wouldn't like you? Silly rabbit.
DeleteI'm gonna echo what Vicktor said and add.. Anyone who meets you and doesn't like you needs their head examined! You will fit in just fine Bradley.
DeleteCongrats, Brad, on landing what sounds a super job for you!! Well done!
ReplyDeleteAnd, bless! showers could never be better shared :) !!
Hugs
Carole-Ann
Brad!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your new job
huggs
Hey Brad,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the employment opp. The time Matt and you spend away from each other (working) will make the the time spent together more enjoyable. Now, about the showering together, my BF and I have practiced that for years, although it did NOT result in water conservation, we sure got clean lol.
Cheers to you both.
Rolly
Congrats Brad! I had to take the food service course. It's boring, but easy to get through. I hope you get some kitchen time, that would be brilliant! Good luck!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulation on you new job Brad!!!! I'm sure you will do well. :)
ReplyDeletePeople often think that it is an easy job but, really, it is not.
During my recent trip we ate at a restaurant. When the waiter asked my friend if she liked her meal, she started telling him that she didn't like it and she wanted to know how the meat has been cooked. You know what he answered??
"I don't give a damn. I only am the waiter, I am not the one who cooks!"
I can tell you that we don't keep a good memory of this evening.
