Valentine's Day: To Mark & John, Our Special Friends

Happy Valentine's Day
to
Mark & John
Two Very Special Friends

We wanted to do something a little different to celebrate Valentine's Day this year.

You may remember from something we wrote around Thanksgiving that we invited 2 very dear friends of ours to spend the holiday with us.

I invited my friend Mark and Brad invited his friend John. Neither had met each other before that day.

Mark had been kicked out of his parent's house when he was 16 when he told his parents he was gay. He's also dated a few guys in the past who treated him badly and is understandably careful about how much he opens himself up to people.

John's parents have always been heavy drinkers and chaos was the norm in his family. He also had a pretty strained relationship since coming out as gay.

They had never met each other before and since neither of them had any plans for Thanksgiving, we invited them over here.

Well, they seemed to immediately hit it off with each other and shortly began dating. They've been together ever since.

It makes us feel so good to see them happy and they remind the two of us how precious love is. They're learning how to open up to each other after coming from families where that could be dangerous.

And the most precious gift they've given us is their trust when they ask our advice on how to deal with different issues that come up for them sometimes.

So on this Valentine's Day, we invited them over for dinner tonight and we're going to be treated by something delicious from Chef Bradley's kitchen.

So, HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY, Mark & John. We want to celebrate your love today and thank you for the gift of your friendship.

Hope everyone enjoys the day, whether you're spending it with the one you love or with people you care about and who care about you.

  6. For Mark and John
Dear boys, it is so difficult to reach beyond our pain and the sad reminders of a painful past to embrace love and trust with another. You both have begun an extraordinary journey. And you have remarkable friends to help you along. I wish you much joy on this journey. I wish you much love. But most importantly I hope that you will see yourself through other's eyes...see how incredibly strong you are...how much you deserve to be cherished and loved. Happy Valentine's day Mark and John!

    To Matty and Bradley
What can I say? Your love and abiding respect for each other is a light to all those who fumble in the dark...those who struggle to leave their closet...those who think that two men could never love faithfully. The respect and love I have for you is beyond words. Happy Valentine's day dear sweet boys!

  10. Ha! I was about to say the same as Thorny - Look who's playing the matchmaker! :) I am so glad that this worked out for John and Mark. I wish them all the best & a wonderful day with each other. Past leaves always has some or the other pain associated with it. But finding the right person to share it with, makes it go away and sometimes even the scars aren't visible any more.

Matt & Brad - so glad that you were there for them! Cherish each other, boys (you too Mark and John!)! Happy Valentine's Day! XOXO

  13. I am happy to know that Mark and John are still together. I wish they find peace in their life now that they have each other. Loving someone and be loved in return, is what give us the strenght to achieve what we thought to be unrealizable. It's all I wish for you both.

Matt and Brad, just thank you for being you and for sharing moments of your life with us.

Happy Valentine's Day! And have a great dinner! *hugs*

  14. Happy Valentine's Day, Matt & Brad, and Mark & John. I hope you all have a fabulous dinner party.

And nice work with the matchmaking. Once upon a time my boyfriend and I introduced our best friends. We were kind of joking around at the time, that if they hit it off his BF could move in with us (my BF already was) and we could split the rent four ways. None of us ever imagined then that we'd be celebrating their 23rd anniversary this year. I wish the same for all of you wonderful guys. :-)
    (((((big hugs all around)))))
